THIS NEW BLOG ON WILDLIFE FEATURES,
SO MANY AWESOME WILD CREATURES.
ANIMALS SPEAK TO US IN RHYME,
ARTWORK PORTRAYS THEIR LOOK THROUGH TIME.
FROM THE ICE AGE UNTIL TODAY,
DIFFERENT SPECIES HAVE THEIR SAY.
Those of you who know me might know that as an artist, I am very concerned about conservation of wild places and the plight of our wildlife in today’s stressful world. Wild species of both animal and plant life are disappearing at an alarming rate daily from this earth, and many species that are still living are struggling to survive. I have always respected and had compassion for our wild neighbors from the great grizzly to the smallest humming bird; and I know that many of you feel the same way.
Since 1991 I have written and illustrated four books, the last three of which are about wildlife. My latest book, published last December, is called “Heads & Tales, Awesome Wildlife of the Santa Barbara Area.” This book was written for ALL ages, however, from what I have heard, children have particularly enjoyed the mosaic illustrations and learning about the animals. With this in mind, I have based my new blog on the format of “Heads & Tales.” Each posting on my blog will feature an animal portrayed by either a mosaic, drawing, or block print. There will be a brief description of the animal and a short rhyme about each one. Actually, the rhyme will be a bit of fiction, as it will be written as if the animal were speaking. Therefore the animals, who cannot speak to us in our language, will speak to you (through me) in simple rhyme. The wildlife will mostly be from California and will include mammals, sea- and land birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. I will try to post this blog every other week with different creatures represented each time.
My hope is that in reading these blogs, you will learn more about our wildlife and some of the problems, both humorous and sad, that they go through in life. If we are more aware of their problems, hopefully we can help in some way.
I hope to hear from you with your comments.
